Three of the Magic Kingdom area resorts are making big changes to their rooms!
Over the last few years, we have watched as resort rooms across Walt Disney World have been receiving soft refurbishments to complete redesign. This past year, the Disney Imagineers have been very busy completing changing the room designs in three of our favorite resorts: Disney’s Polynesian Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
All three of these resorts fall into the deluxe resort category and provide amazing amenities, proximity to Magic Kingdom, fabulous dining options and more. There’s also a story to each of these resorts and the Disney Imagineers, as always, have intricately woven that story into their designs.

Let’s start at Disney’s Contemporary resort. This is the iconic “monorail resort”. The monorail runs right through the middle of the main tower! This resort has always been designed to create the ultra-modern feel with clean lines and simple design. The re-imagined rooms here maintain that look and are now going to give a nod to our favorite super-hero family, The Incredibles.
What do we love about Disney’s Contemporary Resort? LOCATION! It is the closest you can get to Magic Kingdom. It’s literally steps away from the magic! The Theme Park View here is worth the extra splurge because you can enjoy a drink on your balcony and watch the skies light up with Happily Ever After or the new show debuting for the 50th anniversary, Disney Enchantment.

Heading across the Seven Seas Lagoon, you will find Disney’s Polynesian Resort. If the tropical vibe of the South Pacific is where you want to relax on your Walt Disney World vacation, this is your spot! Polynesian resort is located on the monorail and has a beautiful view of Cinderella’s Castle peaking out from across the Lagoon. It has been undergoing a major renovation not only of its rooms, but also the monorail hub and the main lobby entrance. It is now in its final stages of renovation, and we are excited to see these rooms welcome guests next month. These rooms bring the story of Moana to life, and it is a perfect match for this resort. While some of the touches are obvious, like Hei-Hei greeting you when making you’re coffee, the others are subtle, like Maui carefully placed in the wall coverings, and play right into the theming of the rooms.
What do we love about Disney’s Polynesian resort? THE VIBE! We love walking through that main lobby with all of the tropical touches and out through the doors to the perfect view of Cinderella’s Castle. We love how this resort has the perfect blend of relaxation and energy. There’s always fun happening but in a relaxed way perfect for families. In the evenings, the tiki torches light up and you can find that perfect spot on the “beach” to watch the fireworks.

Chances are if you haven’t stayed here or dined here, you haven’t noticed this resort as you’re coming in on the monorail to Magic Kingdom. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge is perfectly hidden and its green rooftops blend perfectly with the landscape so much so that if you’re not looking for it, you won’t notice it. In reality, it’s just a boat ride from Magic Kingdom and not too far away from Contemporary resort. The re-imagined rooms here are continuing the story of the great Northwest with the wall décor resembling the forest and the colors seamlessly bringing the outdoors in.
What do we love about Disney’s Wilderness Lodge? HOW UNIQUE IT IS! This resort is so unexpected for central Florida! Just walking into the lobby you are wowed by it’s grandeur and instantly feel that you have been transported to the northwest. The massive fireplace with comfy chairs in the main lobby, the rocking chairs that sit outside as if you are on the back porch, the Copper Creek Falls running down the landscape make the resort a very unique location. We especially love this resort during the holidays because it brings all the cozy, comfort feels of Christmas.
