Do you prefer to chill, thrill, or do both on your cruise vacation? It’s all up to you while on Royal Caribbean’s Private Island, Perfect Day at Coco Cay, in the Bahamas!
Coco Cay is a frequent stop on Bahamas and Caribbean itineraries with Royal Caribbean. Although this island has been a port of call for many years, the amplified island was re-opened in May of 2020 with a dock, (no more tenders) and several new areas, including the largest fresh water pool in the Bahamas and the tallest water slide in North America! Talk about a great mix of chill and thrill!
Coco Cay is broken into different areas: Chill Island, Oasis Lagoon, Harbor Beach, South Beach, Coco Beach Club, and Thrill Water Park. You’ll also find the two smaller areas of Splash Away Bay and Captain Jill’s Galleon with fresh water play for kids of all ages. In addition, guests can take advantage of trams providing transportation around the island.
Captain Jack’s/Captain Jill’s and Splash Away Bay:
When you reach the end of the pier, you will find a pirate shaped water feature with slides, water cannons, and fountains called Captain Jill’s. To the left, you will see a large bar and lounge area featuring live music and pub games called Captain Jack’s. Wings are served here for a nominal fee and are fantastic! Beyond Captain Jill’s is Splash Away Bay which features small slides and giant water buckets! Perfect for the younger kiddos!
Harbor Beach:
Hungry for some sandwiches, salads, tacos, and desserts? I recommend hitting up Skipper Grill located between Splash Away Bay and The Harbor Beach. This lagoon area has calm waters with chairs and umbrellas for that relaxing vibe.
Chill Island:
Featuring cabanas and beach beds (additional fees apply) as well as lounge chairs and umbrellas (complimentary), this beach area is one to have on your “to do” list. Rentals such as floats and snorkel gear are available in addition to visiting the Coco Cay Island market featuring Coco Cay and Bahamian items.
Grab some quick eats at The Chill Grill for sandwiches, salads, tacos, and desserts, or at The Snack Shack for burgers, chicken sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, and the famous Coco Cay Funnel Cakes!
Oasis Lagoon:
The Oasis Lagoon features the largest fresh water pool in the Caribbean. Here you’ll find a swim up bar, entertainment by the Coco Cay Resident DJ, cabanas(additional fee), and complimentary lounge chairs and umbrellas.
Thrill Water Park:
Known for its “lightening fast water slides and rip-roaring tides”, Thrill Waterpark calls for those who are daredevils. Waterpark tickets are available in your cruise planner and are available as day passes with the purchase of a Thrill Island cabana. Cabanas include 6 passes. Complimentary lockers are also available to guests. Shoes are not allowed on the slides, so convenient storage areas are located at the base of each slide. Ticket prices vary by voyage and do fluctuate. No worries on finding food as a snack shack is available! And you’ll have another opportunity to purchase island merchandise at the Coco Cay Shop.
Coco Beach Club:
Accessible by day pass or with the purchase of a land or over the water cabana, this area features some great amenities. A restaurant available to club guests that includes filets and Caribbean lobster, an infinity pool, several over-sized double loungers with umbrellas(available on first come, first serve basis), and complimentary towels.
South Beach:
South Beach is located on the opposite side of the island from where the ships dock. It has the floating bar, the sports court, and its own snack shack. Cabanas(additional charge) are available here as well as complementary chairs and umbrellas.
General Tips:
- Towels are available near the gangway before you get off the ship or immediately after you exit. Ask a staff member if you are unsure.
- Drink and Internet packages purchased on board also work on the island.
- Getting off the ship earlier will give you the opportunity to have the island almost to yourself! While there are plenty of loungers for everyone, the best seats with unobstructed views will go quick!
- If you bring your own snorkel equipment, vests are available in the dive shack on Chill Island to use while you snorkel. Life vests for kids are located near the pool and also in the Coco Beach Club for those with day passes for this location.
